چکیده

Moduli fields are generally present in superstring–inspired models. They are typically characterized by masses of the order of the supersymmetry breaking scale and by interactions of gravitational strength to ordinary matter. If stable, they can easily overclose the Universe. If unstable, strong limits on their abundance have to be imposed not to disrupt the successful prediction of nucleosynthesis. We discuss the production of moduli quanta from loops of cosmic strings, which may form at phase transitions in the early history of the Universe. As an application, we then focus on strings formed at the end of hybrid inflation, showing that in this case the coupling of the moduli to the field which forms the string network has to be much weaker than the typical gravitational interactions not to exceed the bounds from nucleosynthesis.

On Open Membranes, Cosmic Strings and Moduli Stabilization

We discuss how cosmic strings can be created in heterotic M-theory compactifications with stable moduli. We conclude that the only appropriate candidates seem to be fundamental open membranes with a small length. In four dimensions they will appear as strings with a small tension. We make an observation that, in the presence of the vector bundle moduli, it might be possible to stabilize a five-...

Moduli Corrections to D-term Inflation

We present a D-term hybrid inflation model, embedded in supergravity with moduli stabilisation. Its novel features allow us to overcome the serious challenges of combining D-term inflation and moduli fields within the same string-motivated theory. One salient point of the model is the positive definite uplifting D-term arising from the moduli stabilisation sector. By coupling thisD-term to the ...

Stable and Metastable Cosmic Strings in Heterotic M-Theory

We address the question of finding stable and metastable cosmic strings in quasirealistic heterotic M-theory compactifications with stabilized moduli. According to Polchinski’s conjecture, the only stable strings in the absence of massless fields are Aharonov-Bohm strings. Such strings could potentially be created in heterotic compactifications as bound states of open membranes, five-branes wra...

It is tempting to in ate along one of the many at directions that arise in supersymmetric theories. However, the density perturbations (in the case of a single moduli eld) that arise from in aton quantum uctuations are too small for structure formation. Here we propose th...

Universal reconnection of non-Abelian cosmic strings.

We show that local and semilocal strings in Abelian and non-Abelian gauge theories with critical couplings always reconnect classically in collision, by using moduli space approximation. The moduli matrix formalism explicitly identifies a well-defined set of the vortex moduli parameters. Our analysis of generic geodesic motion in terms of those shows right-angle scattering in head-on collision ...
